The World’s 1st PhyGital TAMBOLA is one of Palak Madhwani’s proudest creations. It was not just another online app for playing Housie; it was a unique initiative designed to entertain and bring joy during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Background:
As the world faced an unfortunate period of lockdown, beginning on March 22, 2020, people were confined to their homes, leading to widespread sadness. Palak and his team aimed to bring smiles to the community, which inspired the creation of the PhyGital TAMBOLA concept.
Launch:
The first round of TAMBOLA was organized just a week after the lockdown started, on March 31, 2020. The concept involved several innovative elements:
- Live Streaming: They went live from their Facebook Page to announce the numbers.
- Participation via App: Participants were required to download the Offeram App, which was primarily designed for discounts but was temporarily on hold due to the lockdown.
- Engagement: Viewers had to comment on the live video, responding with milestones reached from their tickets.
Each user received a unique ticket through the app, allowing them to participate by taking a screenshot, printing it out, or even drawing it manually on paper.
Participation:
The initiative saw thousands of participants in each round, with some playing using multiple mobile phones, others on laptops, and even some connecting via TV screens. A total of six rounds were held for the public, after which Adani Wilmar Limited invited the team to conduct exclusive rounds for their employees.
Family Engagement:
Photos from the event showcased families playing together, while others highlighted individuals finding positivity away from their families during the tough times.
Technological Readiness:
You might wonder how such technology was ready in just seven days. The answer lies in the backstory: the concept of PhyGitial TAMBOLA had been curated in 2018, utilizing digital OOH screens like WooHoo + Offeram. The infrastructure for creating tickets in the app was already established, and they needed only to set up the platform for displaying numbers on Facebook Live.
Execution:
The team conducted thorough research and set everything up, reaching out to sponsors and gift partners, all of whom agreed to participate without any physical meetings, relying entirely on online communication.
